I have 20minutes to kill before I go see Okkervil River, so I thought I’d do a quick blog. This one is about NY ‘anti-folk’ musician and artist, Jeffrey Lewis. He does songs, and also comics. He often combines the two, producing something unique, original, and alot of fun to see.
I first saw Jeff play in October 2007, in my home town. This was a historic moment for Ashford, because previously we had never had a good band, not a SINGLE good band, play in Ashford. When I found out Jeff was playing I was very excited and decided I had to go. I managed to get my friend Emily to come with me, and we got a nice spot sitting on the floor right in front of Jeff and Helen. I actually already blogged about it on my myspace here when it happened, so I won’t repeat myself, but it was a fantastic show and I had a great time. Jeff’s comics really inspired me. He’s playing the Brixton Windmill on November 24th, tickets are super cheap, there aren’t many tickets left (wegottickets only have 7 left) so get one quick!! You don’t want to miss this, it will be special.
I have 5 minutes to spare before I go. I’ll conclude with a nice Picasso quote I read the other day at the National Gallery:
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
We need to all be artists! Enough of the economic crisis, banks, balance sheets, more art! That’s what I say anyway.
