To cut a long story short I had a very frustrating morning, so I decided to go walk in a giant circle across London and listen to music. I walked for about 2 and a half hours, and ate for about half an hour, so I listened to alot of music. One of my favourite bands is The Avett Brothers, so I decided to listen to The Second Gleam EP (which was released this year) as well as the Gleam, and Emotionalism.
The Avett Brothers, Seth and Scott, play a blend of folk, blugrass and country often with poppish melodies and a rock and roll edge. The band are from North Carolina and earlier this year announced they have signed to Columbia records. Emotionalism made it into my top 3 favourite records of 2007, and is definately a record I would recommend giving a listen. My favourite tracks are Shame, Pretty Girl From Chile, Salina, and of course Will You Return? which is one of my favourite songs from last year. I would highly recommend watching this video of the band squeezed into the back of a bus performing that song, it gives you a glimpse of how special the Avett Brothers and the gang are. I love their accents. They don’t actually start playing Will You Return? until about 1min45seconds, so if you are lazy skip to then. It’s worth watching the whole video just to see the end when the whole band are swaying and then all fall over, you can’t watch it without a smile.
Another nice video is the video the band produced for the song Murder In The City from this years Second Gleam EP. It’s really high quality and you can see the brothers in all their glory.
