Your Heart Breaks
Your Heart Breaks is a musical collective based out of Washington state. The band is fronted by Clyde Petersen, who I had the pleasure of seeing perform last year as support to Kimya Dawson. The show was awesome and involved a ridiculously fun song that involved us all counting down to lift off and then pretending we were in space.
Clyde is a fantastic performer, and I think every show should involve some form of space exploration. After the show I bought some beautifully hand made cd/books and the awesome Your Heart Breaks split with Paul Baribeau. You can visit the YHB store here and take a look at all the cool stuff they have for sale. The band also has contributions from the talented, prolific musician Karl Blau as well as Steve Moore, who both also play with the brilliant Laura Veirs. You can visit the YHB website or myspace or Last Fm. Clyde kindly took the time to answer the ten questions.

What was your first musical instrument and where did you get it?
flute. my dad got it for me. but i was just copying my best friend, and I was terrible at it.
Do you download music or buy hard copies? Or both?
Vinyl Records all the way!!!!
Favourite music venue to play and why?
The Greenhouse in Arcata, California. Its a collective house space that has the best dance parties to Your Heart Breaks shows. Ive been hit in the face by so many balloons at that house.
Last book read:
“What it is” by Lynda Barry
Last movie watched:
Over the Top
5 hopes for 2009:
1. be less depressed!
2. more sunshine!
3. to see the end of this stupid war!
4. get better at animation. (im an animator)
5. that i get to go to florida and hit the beach in short shorts.
Best moment on tour?
Touring england with Kimya Dawson and Ange and Panda, right after Juno was released. I loved playing in places packed full of young people who were totally making out in the back of clubs.
If you could play anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would like to tour Australia.
Favourite band/singer/album you discovered recently?
I’ve been listening to the album on K records by Desolation Wilderness. They are a band from the Northwest. Its like the soundtrack to Twin Peaks, meets Sonic Youth on a mellow day. I love it. The album is called White Light Strobing.
If you could get any two musicians to collaborate with each other, who would they be and why?
Karl Blau and Brian Wilson. It would be out of this world. The most epic pop songs would be written.
Lots of thanks to Clyde for answering the questions. Check out Your Heart Breaks.
