Emmy the Great: First Love

Emmy the Great’s first full length album is available for pre-order from Rough Trade. If you buy it from Rough Trade you also get an exclusive CD of acoustic performances of the album. So it would be more than worth getting it from there. While you’re down there you could also pick up the We Almost Had A Baby 7″ for £3. It’s limited to 750 copies and comes with some nice packaging/poster.

I am very excited for this album, which is due to be released early February. The collage style album artwork is very nice too. The title track from the album was very very enjoyable the two times I’ve heard Emmy perform it live. The song has lovely, witty lyrics and is catchy enough to make you remember it. She borrows the “hallelujah, hallelujah” refrain from the original Leonard Cohen version (of Hallelujah). You can see a nice video of Emmy playing it here.

What I love about Emmy’s music is it’s simple but she has a wonderful voice and I really enjoy her lyrics. When I hear her live I find myself to be hanging on every word she sings. She has shows lined up all over the country, including one at London’s ULU. You can see her full list of tour dates and listen to songs on her Myspace.
