The Olympic Symphonium
Kyle is a musician in the Canadian band Olympic Symphonium. Hear songs and see tour dates on their Myspace. Kyle kindly answered 10 questions.
What was your first musical instrument and where did you get it?
My mom’s acoustic guitar from the 70′s that was in the attic of a friend, untouched for 25 years. Needless to say it was in great shape.
Do you download music or buy hard copies? Or both?
Both, I have a strict policy of buying at least one album a week.
Favourite music venue to play and why?
Probably the Cameron House in Toronto. It’s a mini-theatre that seats around 60 people. It has a great vibe and always sounds excellent thanks to the house engineer Frank.
Last book read:
Just finished The Watchmen in the van yesterday. However, it is a graphic novel and may not count so I’ll also say “The Book of Negroes” by Lawrence Hill. It was a great story and a really quick and depressing read.
Last movie watched:
Step Brothers with John C Reilly. Hilariously stupid.
5 hopes for 2009:
- That things improve in Canadian Government, specifically the reinstatement of the arts funding that Stephen Harper cut last year.
- To make it to Europe and back in one piece.
- To purchase a one-piece suit.
- To purchase cramp
- That this rash goes away
Best moment on tour?
Perhaps in Canmore, Alberta – a beautiful mountain town – last summer. After a really great show, I ended up in a bathtub getting my feet washed by a girl I had met that evening calling me her “sup pup” while her boyfriend watched.
If you could play anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Favourite band/singer/album you discovered recently?
Apparat from Germany. Really great, beautiful, experimental music.
If you could get any two musicians to collaborate with each other, who would they be and why?
The Men of the Deeps and Snoop Dog for the sheer awkwardness of the situation. Celtic traditional gangsta rap folk songs with multiple harmonies.
