Music Calendar

My calendar is looking quite busy now. I’m actually starting to get quite confused about when I’m free and when I’m not. Here is what I’ve got planned:

Anais Mitchell + The Bowmans 21/01 @ Luminaire: The venue is nice, I am intrigued. It fits with my policy of “if I have an exam that morning I MUST go to a music related event in the evening”.

of Montreal + Casiokids 24/01 @ Digital, Brighton: If I were to use an animal as a metaphor for how excited I am, it would be either DRAGON or DINOSAUR!  I’m not sure if that sentence made any sense….

Darren Hayman 26/01 @ Rough Trade East: It’s free, it will be my first in-store of the year.

Loney, Dear 28/01 @ St Giles: St Giles is such a beautiful venue. This show is going to be so epic. If it was an animal it would be a white tiger. Tigers are noble.

Sky Larkin @ 29/01 ICA: I’ve never been to ICA before, and I’m excited to hear Sky Larkin’s new songs.

Peter Broderick 04/02 @ the Social: Adam recommended him to me,  I now recommend him to you…

Frida Hyvonen 05/02 @ Bush Hall: I am so excited! This animal would be peacock or flamingo.

Vivian Girls 14/02 @ Proud Galleries: Haven’t got a ticket for this one yet. I keep noticing lots of stuff on on this day, but I’ll probably go to this.

Women 17/02 @ Madame Jo Jo’s: Haven’t got one for this yet either. I liked them last time I saw them so I’d like to catch them again.

Jeffrey Lewis + Herman Dune + Laura Marling 21/02 @ Union Chapel: Should hopefully be getting a pass for this, on the animal scale of excitedness it would be HIPPO!

Neko Case 23/02 @ Bush Hall: I am excited. On the animal scale it would be, GIANT SEQOIA TREE.

Fleet Foxes + Vetiver 24/02 @ Roundhouse: On the animal scale I think this would also be a tree. An epic tree. That tree from Harry Potter.

M Ward 25/02 @ Borderline: One of my favourite venues. I feel lucky to have got a ticket, it sold out fast!

Woodpigeon 26/02 @ The Albert Brighton: Haven’t got a ticket yet, I still intend to go. This would be a flock of woodpigeons.

Emmy the Great 27/02 @ ULU: Emmy likes lolcats, look at her blog. This would be a lolcat.

The Acorn + Babel 13/03  @ The Windmill: I hear The Acorn are good and I’m excited to see Babel again. And it was £5.

Wildbirds and Peacedrums 07/04 @ Luminaire: I’ve seen some cool youtube videos of them and I listened to their record today, it will be great. 2 days before my birrrrrthday.

Beirut + Shearwater 08/05 @ The Forum: Well, this sold out in like an hour and I don’t have a ticket. Where there is a will there is a way!

This list tends to grow/change every day, so it won’t be update for long. I’m also considering going to Animal Collective @ The Forum, there’s a free Alessi’s Ark show I need to look into, there’s a band called The Olympic Symphonium doing a free show with Rod Thomas at the Big Chill House and another at my super local Slaughtered Lamb, I see Kaki King has got a show which I might go to, I saw Jack Lewis has a show at The Windmill…. I need to look into all these things. Can you see why I loose track of what’s going on? There’s also a David Thomas Broughton show at Bush Hall which I may or may not go to. I might go to Asobi Seksu at the ICA, I’ll decide once I listen to the new album. There’s a London popfest too, and an Anti Folk fest at 12 Bar Club. Not to mention the free in-stores at Rough Trade and Pure Groove which will undoubtedly keep getting announced. I want to see Antony and the Johnsons and Bob Dylan but they are both outside of my price bracket.

I haven’t checked my bank balance in 2 weeks. I am slightly worried, but I get the second installment of my student loan on Monday. Phew!

Good list! I approve especially of Wildbirds and Peacedrums, it will be a good pre-birthday treat as they are AWESOME and would be a BIRD OF PARADISE or somesuch.

[...] most bands, by simply seeing what gigs are on in London. The first mention of them in my blog was January 17th. I was being weird (pfft!) and comparing gigs to animals but, as per usual, had veered off course [...]
