Track: Andrew Bird- The Privateers

My new favourite track from Noble Beast is The Privateers.

You can hear it on Youtube if you haven’t already. Everyone is hailing Merriweather Post Pavillion as the best record of 2009, and we’re only a week in! I’m on team Andrew Bird. At first Effigy was my favourite, then Anonanimal but now its The Privateers.

It’s one of those songs that you want to listen to on repeat. I love the way he articulates each word with such care (especially in the lines ‘I can see your house from here/now leaves have fallen, dear‘). The song is pretty catchy and for some reason makes me want to buy a ship and give it a  name and go on a Lord of The Rings-esque adventure with fencing swords and violins and a telescope. I’m not entirely sure why. I love the playful violin plucking and the tapping of the drum.

Noble Beast is out on 20/01 on Fat Possum and 02/02 here in Europe on Bella Union. I hope the vinyl is available over here (and hopefully not too expensive…). Andrew Bird’s website is here, you can listen to a stream of Useless Creatures.

Thanks Andy. I think MPP could be a grower for me. I quite like My Girls.
