Video: Cat Power-Lost Someone

A blast from the past! I love this performance, I prefer it to the album version. Chan is one of my favourite singers, I hope she tours here this year. I actually watched this when it was on TV, and I hardly ever watch TV. I seem to remember I made the special effort of staying up because Feist was also on that episode so it was a double dose of wonderfulness. Not only do I love to listen to Chan but I love to watch her, with all the sweeping hand gestures and crouching and wiggling fingers.

Cat Power is such a frustrating artist. At her best she’s AMAZING- that Otis Redding cover she did last year was utterly beautiful- but from my experience, and the experience of most people I know who’ve seen her she can also be godawful. That said, apparently when she’s on form she’s brilliant so luck of the draw I suppose! I’d see her again only if she ditched that Dirty Delta Blues band that were backing her last time- they drained every last iota of subletly and emotion out of her songs with their overbearing, pub-band playing. Feist’s band was about 5000000000000000000 times better.

Ouch, that was a bit negative. Sorry, I got a bit carried away there but her Forum show in 2007 was the most disappointing I’ve ever been to (except maybe Modest Mouse) so I get a bit emotional…

Yeah if I were to see her play I think I’d rather see her play solo, just her and a piano/guitar. I’d also like it to be in a venue like the Luminaire but I can’t see that happening anytime soon…
