Monday, I shall endeavor to head to see Scott Matthews play at Rough Trade, 2pm. I don’t know his stuff but I figure he must be cool, watch this video of Between The Bars, where he duets with Holly Miranda. The second verse is my favourite anyway, but Holly’s part is especially beautiful. Wowee. Seriously amazing. So yeah, I figure he must be cool too. Then I’ll head to Union Chapel in the evening to catch Kimya Dawson.
Tuesday, it’s Metric day. Yep, the day has come. I’m such a huge fan of Emily’s voice and Knives Don’t Have Your Back. I love Grow Up And Blow Away hugely, I like the other 2 Metric records. I just can’t get excited about this show, I’m not really sure how I feel about Fantasies. Which is semi-heartbreaking, but ho hum. Maybe they’ll be spectacular and I’ll end up loving it. Magic Arm also have a lunchtime instore at Pure Groove, I’m listening to Outdoor Games now and they sound more than worth checking out, here is their Myspace.
Wendesday, I have my economics exam 10-1. If I’m done early I’ll head off to see Titus Andronicus at Pure Groove. Then, that evening it’s round 2 of Ane Brun at Union Chapel. The show there earlier this year was SO good, it’ll be interesting to see if she can do it again.
Thursday, I have no night gig as I have my Accounting exam from 6-9pm. Mumford & Sons have a free set at Flowerpot at 10, but I suspect it might be rammed so I think I’ll give it a miss. Akron/Family have a 1pm instore at Rough Trade so I’ll definately head to that.
Friday, weird, I apparently have no gig at all on Friday. If anyone knows what I should be going to let me know, otherwise I’ll have a night in (!?).
Saturday, I am most excited about. Sharon Van Etten has a free instore 1pm at Rough Trade East. Don’t miss it!!! She is amazing, amazing, amazing. And it’s free! You have no reason not to come. Really, don’t miss it. Beautiful voice. Then I’ll see her later at the Borderline supporting Great Lake Swimmers. I listened to their old album the other day and it was very lovely indeed.
Sharon is my favourite this week, listen to that voice (!!!):
