Review: Hjaltalin at Pure Groove

I milled over to Pure Groove to catch the Icelandic six piece play a lunchtime instore. I saw the band play in January, back when gigs were quite sparse. They put on the first ‘best show of the year’… until they were displaced the next day by of Montreal. Nonetheless, I loved them enough to warrant catching them again today. Once again, their catchy pop tunes had my feet tapping. It was enjoyble indeed.

… what a lackluster review.

Heh, we will try and construct a little bit more of an interview in the comments section!

Any particularly note-worthy songs? Do they have an EP or album, either already or in the works? Similarity to other bands?

they played Traffic Music and Goodbye July, which I enjoy most. Both are on their Myspace. They’ve got an album out. Can’t think of who to compare them to… just think really, really poppy music from Iceland with bassoon and violin and you’re there! :)

I’m so sad I missed their latest gigs over here, stupid holidays :(

    Anyhow, go to here:

    http://eardrumsmusic.com/the-label/a-good-crop-eardrums-autumn-compilation-2008-volume-4/

and download this great compilation (and the others on there, and the latest ones from this site: http://www.eardrumspop.com/ )

for lots of cool music. Nothing to do with me, but have found some cool stuff from them/him. Anyhow, that Volume 4 compilation has the Icelandic song that Hjaltalin play at their gigs, which makes all the Icelandics go even crazier than normal. Such a great fun song- and it’s free!
