Review: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart at Pure Groove

Alas, I laid aside my band-name prejudices and headed over to Pure Groove to see this band that get alot of good press. They played at Pure Groove last year, and I missed out purely because I thought their band name was stupid. Then I repeatedly read good thing after good thing about them and felt like a perhaps had missed out on a treat.

Lucky for me they returned to Pure Groove for a free lunchtime instore today. I’ve been down at Pure Groove alot this week, but this was the busiest instore so far, with people spilling out onto the street. Partly because the floor was taken up with tables and chairs, but even so.

They were charming and poppy and I enjoyed their set. I don’t know their songs so I can’t give much of a commentary. If you don’t know them: they’re a five piece from New York. They have an LP and a few 7″ singles. They said they have a show at The Lexington tonight, and a lunchtime instore at Rough Trade tomorrow. I’d quite like to catch them again, so I will most likely swing by Rough Trade tomorrow. Here is their Myspace.

Good to hear you are coming round to them, their LP is very slightly shoegaz(ey?) and also with that pop aspect to it, well worth a listen IMO.

I’ll have a listen. I can’t be bothered to walk to Rough Trade to see them again though.

They weren’t worth it, or are you lazy? Didn’t your Tesco’s finest meal give you enough energy? :)

Well… I liked them but not enough to walk over there. It only takes 25 minutes, but then 25 minutes back, and probably some waiting around and a 25minute set too… so it’ll take up time when I should be doing other things! Tescos finest = nom nom, but one meal a day isn’t enough! I shall go buy food later.

Why do you only limit your photos to band photos? I’m sure it would make some of us hungry (and envious) to see your meals!

      Fair enough.

I don’t limit my photos to bands! I do take other photos but don’t always put them on my flickr. Hehe trust me, my meals aren’t that exciting… at all.

You should put those other photos on your flickr, would be nice to see some variation from the norm (I mean that in the nicest possible way despite it sounding horribly nasty!).

As a general thing, I don’t comment on every post, but I certainly read every one and I’m sure loads of other people do in the shadows – nice to read :)
