Hah! I forgot this song existed! And suddenly it has made me so happy. Amazing.
I was sitting playing guitar, just messing around. I was actually playing The Sound Of Silence because I like to sing that. The chords start off Am-G. So I was picking that. Then I remembered another song that goes Am-G. Singing Machine!!!! I got rid of the capo and played and sung this song about 5 times in a row. I figure I must be really annoying for my hall mates when I do that. Sometimes I’ll just sing and play a song over and over and over.
Anyway, I literally haven’t listened to Kimya in about a year, which is strange because about 2 and a half years ago I was in love with this song. I always loved this song because I just think that the message is so sweet. But it feels even more apt now because I’m actually just 19, and the song has a verse that goes “get out there and be seen, you’re lean and clean, you’re barely nineteen, you’re a singing machine“. Yeah, man! When I was 17 I made Dancing Queen my song, in a sort of silly way because I am like the opposite of the dancing queen. I also was into Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl alot, back when I was 17. I don’t know what other songs there are that mention being 19.
Ah, I just put Anthems on (!). I love this song! Good times. I tried to enforce it onto my Ashford friends by putting it on mix cds for their birthdays, because they were 17 too. That was futile, I doubt they even listened to those cds (!). Anyway, I have veered off the original centrepoint for this post, even if there was one. That photo I’ve put up there is from when I saw Kimya a year ago, before I new how to work my camera like I do now. Still, not bad really.
Here is a video of Kimya playing the song, I love the words:
