WOW. That was an insane show. Brilliant. I think between Matt, Kim and the audience there was enough sweat to fill an olympic size swimming pool. HOT.
I’m going to write my photographer-y bit now so it doesn’t invade my review of the show. I took my flashgun along in case it was dark. I never use flash out of choice but before the show I was thinking that this show seems like it would suit flash. I knew it was going to be energetic, and I knew it probably wasn’t going to be that bright. Dark + fast movement = hard to capture. Half the reason why I never use flash is because I go to so many intimate folky shows and I don’t think it’s appropriate there. Here, what with the crowd-surfers, dancing and water being thrown about, I don’t think the flash was that noticeable. I took a bunch of non flash photos and a bunch of flash photos and the ones where I used flash turned out much better. When I look at a stage and the light I can usually compute in my mind what settings to use without flash, but because I never use flash I was at a bit of a loss and had to change things around a couple of times.
Anyhow, I’m happy with the way these turned out. There’s more energy in them than the ones without flash… but it was all very experimental for me so I hope you dig them:
