What a bizarre experience! I don’t even know where to start. All I can say is Alessi is one of the most incredible people anyone could ever hope to meet.
After work I plodded across the other side of town and down Oxford Street. Oxford Street has the ability to raise my stress level tenfold. I strongly dislike that street. It was insanely busy and a real battle to get down it.
The Sanderson is a giant hotel that is adjacent to Oxford Street. I am awkward at the best of times, let alone in a big posh fancy hotel. I stood outside and I didn’t want to go inside through fear of touching something and everything breaking. I called Alessi and she collected me and we went up to the penthouse. It was crazy. The lift was a bit like a spaceship inside. The penthouse was epic. We did the crossword in the paper. Between mine and Alessi’s combined brains we got about 4 words done. Woop!
Alessi played downstairs in the courtyard. I got to sit in a hammock seat and watch her from there. It was comfortable. The place was full of random people who were staying in the hotel, just getting their dinner. They had no interest in Alessi’s gorgeous music. They were chattering and drinking their drinks. I thought it was beautiful and kind of reminded me of this. Where something amazing and so sweet is happening, but people are unaware and going about their business. Almost like their ears were deaf to it. They were missing out. Hugely. I adore hearing Alessi play and sing. So perfect.
We got some food after. Upstairs we did some drawing and played around on guitar and it was amazing. It was so sweet, nobody wanted to go to sleep. Alessi is incredible. She is one of my favourite musicians, I love her drawings, and she is just amazing in general. Go see her play. Listen to her album. I hope you get to like her as much as I do.
