I really love riding on trains. I like looking out the window and listening to something. I think it makes everything look about ten times more beautiful. Yesterday I happened to be on a train and decided to let Marissa Nadler’s gorgeous Little Hells guide my travels. I’ve been listening to this album every day lately, it grows on me with every new listen.
Little Hells is heartbreakingly beautiful. I can’t think of the best way to describe it without being really abstract. The way it makes me feel is like, you know when ink is dropped into water and it diffuses in pretty patterns? That’s how this album makes me feel. Sorry to be a stuck record about Rosary, but it is one of the best songs of the year. Marissa’s voice is so soothing and the words to this song kill me. The Hole Is Wide and River Of Dirt is a brilliant duo of songs back to back. It’s hard not to hang on every word Marissa sings.
Listen to Marissa Nadler.
