Laura Gibson at The Luminaire

Before the Monotonix show on Thursday I headed over to the Luminaire with my friend Chris to audio record a few of songs with the lovely Laura Gibson for the  Broken Sound podcast. Before we did that we got to watch Laura soundcheck with Musee Mecanique- a very talented duo. It was amazing!

I would have loved to stay for the show, but it was a treat to get to hear a few songs in the audio session and in the soundcheck, one of which was Take This Waltz. I couldn’t believe my luck. They soundchecked the whole song and it sounded absolutely stunning. It’s a cover of the Leonard Cohen original, and features (probably my favourite instrument) musical saw! It was absolutely wonderful and I’m so glad I got to hear it live. Despite having quite a long, arduous couple of days, Laura was a complete joy to be around. If you haven’t listened to her yet- do it! She has a beautiful, gentle voice and her songs are hugely sweet. Her Myspace is here.

Here is a fantastic video of Laura and her band playing Take This Waltz in an epic church in Oregon. It sounds wonderful. Beautiful. I love it so much, the musical saw is perfect. The glock and the accordion are also beautiful touches. I love it.

(you forgot the link to Laura’s myspace) Glad you saw some of her/them anyhow.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I got the Ah Holly Fam’ly album a few weeks ago. Tis quite nice, especially Lucky Peak and Loneliest City.

You should maybe check out Headlights’ Wildlife album, which you might like. It’s on spotify and is quite sweet.
