I’ve had the pleasure of hearing Van Dyke Parks perform Orange Crate Art a bunch of times this year. It’s such a brilliant, warm, nostalgic tune that always makes me so happy every time I hear it. It’s one of my favourite Van Dyke songs; the eponymous track from his album with Brian Wilson released in 1995.
With Brian Wilson:
This is from VDP’s special London show this year, with the Britten Sinfonia, Daniel Rossen and Robin Pecknold. I love Robin’s vocals with VDP’s.
And this one’s pretty great too:
Van Dyke Parks is the coolest man.
