Jenny Lewis- Fernando!

So, tonight is my first evening in since last Friday. I finally had time to check out this sweet video for See Fernando:

I like it alot. In less cool Jenny-centric news, they have cancelled their Shepherd’s Bush Empire show along with the rest of their European shows. Cryptic ‘unforeseen circumstances’ are at the bottom of this. Never mind, I suppose.

Jenny Lewis on Craig Ferguson

Oops, I only just got around to watching this:

I’m digging all the moustaches. I think Jenny should have worn one. Just look at her go, she’s charisma personified.

Rabbit Fur Coat

You know, I think there is such a thing as overkill. I’ve been listening to lots of my old favourites lately. According to itunes, I haven’t listened to Born Secular since last November, so I figure that was the last time I listened to this record in its entirety. I used to listen to it all the time (kind of the way I listen to The Snake ALL THE TIME) and then I obviously haven’t listened to it in a while.

Now I’m listening and it’s sounding sweeter than ever! I love this record so much. Good memories from this album.

One of my favourite things ever is when I first heard M Ward whisper ‘Say goodnight, Jenny‘ at the end of It Wasn’t Me. 2 years ago I was at school and we used to have this enforced revision time in the library, which was called sup study. It was in the morning before break time and I was sitting at a computer and there were some people being noisy, so I turned up my ipod really loud. It was at the end of It Wasn’t Me and I heard that whisper for the first time. I literally sat there for 5 minutes playing it again and again, and it made me smile. I’d been listening to the album for like a year before that moment. How could I have listened to this record so many times and missed this!? It was brilliant. I thought it was funny too. After sup study I went to the common room and sat with my friends and told them about this amazing thing, I was really excitable. They were like ‘oh ok, that’s nice’. Hah.

Jenny Lewis show

Jenny Lewis returns to our shores and plays an August 18th show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Info here. Fittingly, I’ve been on a bit of a Jenny/Rilo Kiley run this week. We found out about this show yesterday while at Whispertown, also fittingly. I can’t even remember how I got into Whispertown but I think it was probably through their affiliation with Jenny.

The show will be almost a year since her last here, I wonder if she’s releasing anything or just going to do a similar setlist to the Koko show…

You Are What You Love

Rabbit Fur Coat came out ages ago now! 2006 was such a Rabbit Fur Coat/Bottoms of Barrels-centric year for me. I loved RFC hugely, and I still do. I haven’t listened for a while though, so I’ll listen today. This was/is my favourite song from the record:

I’d love another record with the Watson Twins. I know how bands like to progress and change after each record, but I’d actually love her to release a Rabbit Fur Coat part 2. I wish she would tour here more often, too. Jenny used to be my favourite singer. I still love to hear her voice. I think it’s cool how you can hear it change record to record. Vocally, I think she’s gotten stronger with every new record. Vocally, for sure. Her voice on Acid Tongue is amazing, absolutely beautiful. It’s just as wonderful live. Even though I can’t say I like Under The Blacklight as a whole, it’s undeniable that her voice is spectacular on that too. She’s come a long way from Glendora. I do love that song, but wow, funny stuff. In fact, I love the whole of Initial Friend. It’s such a sweet, light hearted album. I love all that Rilo Kiley goodness. So many great songs, so many of my favourite songs. I’m listening to Somebody Else’s Clothes right now………..  I love this band. In fact, I’m going to listen to Rilo Kiley for the rest of the day. Sweet.
